 There are many, many CDs that don't have barcodes (and many that don't have catalogue numbers). We can't make the field compulsory. There are however many ways to check an entry isn't already on the database.

 Well, Columbia House CDs have no barcode....

 I think it could be remedied in the format menu whereby if you select CD Album the barcode field remains active and must be filled in before uploading the entry. If you select something like "Promo Only" or "Bootleg" this could hide the barcode field and negate the need to enter such data. I don't know how hard it would be to incorporate such a feature but I'm sure it's entirely possible

 I agree with cptbeefheart's sentiments as some entries have minimal information, leading to double entries. But........... making fields such as cat # and barcodes mandatory could lead to problems as some early CDs do no have barcodes, neither do some unofficial or bootleg releases, unless we had the provision to say something like "none visible".

 Sorry , no I didn't, as searching for a barcode is what I normally use. Still doesn't get around the issue of members logging incomplete entries. I think that certain fields should be made mandatory such as barcode and Cat#. I think It should work that if certain info is missing then the entry can't be uploaded until it's in place.

 That's what happens when entries aren't complete. I searched for the barcode and when it didn't come up I went ahead with it. The other entry is missing the barcode !!!
