ReviewThese sunny discs are the first two volumes of a 6-volume series. As such, they contain interesting material and, besides many known recordings, some real gems and alternate versions.
Thing is, however, the guys responsible for this release -- and may the fleas of a thousand camels infest their buttocks!! -- did not think it necessary to specify the origin of the material, thus there is no recording or release info WHATSOEVER !!! Can you believe it?
So, on the one hand these volumes are indeed a valuable anthology of Ike & Tina's career (with some unknown alt takes and live recordings thrown in), but on the other hand, and thanks to the deplorable lack of even minimal indications as to where SPV got the recordings from, they are pretty useless for everyone interested in the (hi)story of Ike & Tina.
Alas, why is it that Ike & Tina have been so neglected, musically- and otherwise, until the present day?
Not a single serious book about their career, and not one nearly complete or satisfyingly correct discography of their recordings, in print or on the net!
Shame, shame, shame.
