The "'93" is located right at the end of the Japanese Language essay, in exactly the same place as I would expect to find the date the essay had been written if it were an English Language essay, and there is also an "11" in amongst the Kanjii (or is it Katakana). So it looks like the essay was written in November 1993 but the release didn't come out until early 1994.
I've updated the release date in accordance with this theory.
Hi Roger, I think this might actually be 21st January 1994 - if you look on the back cover, there is "94-1-21" under the barcode, and this is a similar format to some recent Japanese CD's I've bought, and match the real dates shown in some Japanese record company and shop websites.
I would guess that this was released in 1993, as there is something in the Japanese text in the insert that has the character string "'93" in it.
This looks to be part of an entire series of classic PIR LPs released in Japan at the same time under the banner "Nice Price Line 30 & 36 Philadelphia International Records Series" and was retailed at Y1800 (which at today's exchange rates is roughly £12). If that was a "nice" price I hate to think what a "nasty" one was!! :)
