| | Thanks Roger, that's the song I'm on about. I'm not sure whether either of these made the charts over here but Phil would know that or be able to find out. I'm going to post some weird Australian only Soul compilations soon. So look out for them, they're weird in that the song selections are quite bizarre in some cases. One is a 60's and 70's US soul comp with a live version of the Style Council's "Money-Go-round" inexplicably tacked on the end. Another has J.J. Cale and Santana chucked into the mix. Anyway you'll see soon enough. Thanks for posting Cyril's "Tell" song for comparison. |

| | Take it this is the song on your mind Lee ...
Can't say I've ever heard it before and it was quite enjoyable, but then "Tell It Like It Is" was a huge hit in the U.S. in 1966 (#1 R&B for 5 weeks and #2 "Pop" for 2 weeks) and got significant airplay here in Merrye Olde England (Though it never made the Charts here) and is part of my musical-memory from that era, so as far as I'm concerned compilers of CDs (and Radio Station Programmers) should play the correct version.
Glad to hear that the "correct" version is on this compilation.
Maybe I should bring this to the attention of a certain Radio Station I listen to!! |

| | Roger, it is the original now that I've listened carefully to them both. The CD version is a bit sharper sounding than the YouTube version but they are the same as best I can tell. Apparently I don't know how to embed vids yet so I can't post brother Cyril's song but is on YouTube if you don't know it.. |

| | This is the original "Tell It Like It Is" ....
The version that usually appears on CD (and annoyingly gets played on radio as if it is the original) is a re-recording from the 1970s. Presumably the newer version is easier to license. |

| | Roger, I don't know enough about the versions to know which one this is. I can tell you though that Aaron's "Tell It Like It Is" is not quite as good as brother Cyril's "Tell Me What's On Your Mind" which I do have on a single and personally prefer to this track. Sorry, Keef & Roger. |

| | Keith Richards was the guest on BBC Radio's "Desert Island Discs" show last year (programme page and download available here) and his musical selections were similar to what is on this CD.
One question Lee ,, is the version of "Tell It Like It Is" (Track 21) the original Par-Lo recording or the remake that generally seems to appear on CD? |

| | Yehoo! My days as an advertising exec. for the British musical press are finally over. Looking forward to doing some CDs I actually like and bought of my own free will again. Going through and cataloging a fair chunk of both the two major British music magazines' CDs made me realise a couple of things;
1. the standard of cover-mounted Cds has declined dramatically over time,
and 2. the only place these CDs are worth anything is as catalogue items on CD World.
The CDs can't be sold and are generally not good enough to be given away, well not to friends anyway. |
