Juke Jules SUBS 1st Feb 2025		CD Album John Lee Hooker - Chill Out (1995)	Supporting musicians are not credited on individual tracks, but they are on Wikipedia, so I'm pleased to learn that on the title track, in addition to Carlos Santana we have Benny Rietveld - Bass, Chester D. Thompson - Keyboards, Gaylord Birch - Drums, Raoul Rekow - Congas, with Karl Perazzo on Timbales breaking that pregnant silence.

Juke Jules SUBS 23rd Jan 2025		CD Album Bajofondo - Tangoclub (2003)	I'm not sure what is meant by the additions in red after the title, as shown on the rear cover image. These do not appear on the playout titles. They could refer to additional artists, or to a description of the track titles. The notes by Enrico Lopetegu describe poetically what this new music is all about. "For Argentina and Uruguay, countries united, and separated, by the Rio de la Plata, these are times of electricity and tango. Lots of tango, and I don't mean tourist tango, I mean real tango, the one that is part of the Rioplatense bloodstream, the one that makes us melancholy, nostalgic, or just plain sad. The tango that makes us want to dance, laugh and make love. The treasure box for memories too painful to remember, too sweet to forget" [YouTube Video]

This album was effectively their second, and their success had attracted several other artists to work with them. Juke Jules SUBS 29th Nov 2024		CD Album Grupo Magnético - Positivo (2018)	Formed out of Salsa Celtica, Grupo Magnético are basically the group of Toby Shippey, augmented by a fluid mix of Latin-American musicians; Ricardo Fernandez Pompa, Lino Rocha, Alfonso de Jesus, Joe de Jesus, Magico Oritz, Rene Alvarez, see the gatefold scan for the complete list. 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone' may be their best-known track, but Vulcano V El Gato is really what Grupo Magnético are all about. [YouTube Video]

Neil Hannon and Joby Talbot also contributed two original songs and an arrangement of Brecht and Weill's "Tango Ballad", while Hannon sang two songs ("Tango Ballad", "Split") as duets with Lemper. I like the way the vocal interjections from the band are portrayed in the official video as police dogs barking [YouTube Video] Forget about the album track, the Live version is rather good! [YouTube Video] Four excellent session musicians are backing Ella here: Alex Reece is playing guitar, a tattooed Ryan Tedder is one of the background vocalists, while the two women seem to include Bridgette Bryant and either Carmel Echols or Maxi Anderson; I'd love to know for sure. The notes on this video are worth a read if you're interested in the collaborators on the album: "Ella Henderson's always managed to prove people wrong. Even at the start of her career, at the age of 16, she transformed a sixth place finish on The X Factor in 2012 into a UK number one hit, Ghost, two years later. Work started almost immediately on what would become Chapter One, with Ella hand-picking a string of top class producers and songwriters including Ryan Tedder (who approached the label about working with Ella after hearing a Drake cover she'd posted online), Salaam Remi (Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill), Steve Mac (Ed Sheeran) and the legendary "Babyface" Kenny Edmonds (Whitney, Beyoncé). Eventually, like a relationship coming to an end, Syco decided to part ways with Ella. "In the end, she was only label-less for three months after a handful of serendipitous events lead her to signing with Rudimental's Major Toms/Asylum label. “I wanted to sign for longevity,” she says of her new home. “I feel like I have a lot to give this time around and this label really understand me for my songwriting, not just Ella the popstar.”"
