| | I've got a few promo CDs now, and some, which are made up with covers as a "finshed" product (so to speak) ready to go to radio stations and the like, have a pretty standard silver underside/ playing surface, while a couple of the other CDrs, like my Wurzels CD single, has the characteristic blue underside.... but this is a much deeper blue colour.. very pronounced.
...Just retrieved it to look at the inner ring, to see what it says there, and all it has is:
"Recordable CD 74 Min SE12AP"
(Which I presume is a postcode) |

| | I hadn't noticed the mastering studio logo on the CD. This is quite interesting, I guess it could be a kind of "test pressing"... anyone got any insider knowledge on these things?
Funnily enough I got hold of a test pressed album on CD recently (from the band), but it was the same as the commercial release except with a "Test" sticker on it. But that was an album, whereas this isn't...
Intriguing. |

| | Well this kind of threw me to be honest... I'd heard of CD acetates, but never actually seen one myself, in the flesh...
... no barcode, co cat, and no: "Promo / demo - Not for sale" kind of text, so not intended either for sale or promotion in the usual sense.
I suppose they are for in house sampling use, in the same way that the old 45 demos were originally used. (Or are they a CD equivalent of a test pressing?)
If it is felt that promo would be more appropriate then I'd be more than happy for it to be changed - And if anyone knows what the deal is with these I'd like to know :) |

| | Are you sure this isn't a promo? It sure looks like one... |

| | I went for "unreleased" for this, as although these tracks were eventually released as a single, this is copy is not for issue, and isn't a promo of any description.
The term that I have seen around the net that applies to these is "CD Acetate" (I've also seen a Suede one)... maybe an option to be added to the drop down box?
-But please change the CD type if you think it best, or if the actual release is ever added, maybe this should be moved to that entry... or this could be made to be the actual entry, with proper release details added along with scans - I'll be doing all my scans after crimbus - |
