Just ask the seller, "Is the playing side Black (CD) or Silver (DVD)". H.

I hope he doesn't mind me relating this, but my thanks to Henry29, who tells me that he can only say anecdotally, that a rep came in (to shop?) and told him about this being a one day only release, as the black underside CD was an idea borrowed from PSP discs (Sony), and finding that they could play music off them as well, tried it out with this...

(Perhaps, with an intent to make all CDs have a black underside instead of silver?)

...In any event, it bears out what I have found in ebay listings, in that most (if not all) for sale there, are the DVD versions of the cd single (You see the little DVD logo on top right of the front cover).

...A little less clear on discogs listings, and if it is the case that a mixture of DVD singles and CD singles are in those for sale listings, it might be that people are not generally aware that there is a distinction to be made.

If you are after this black disc CD single version, it might be worth, therefore, asking sellers the question about which exact version they are selling first.

Having a little problem with images at the moment (again....grrr)...

...But have managed a fairly decent snap of the black CD. This is the underside / playing surface, which probably better conveys it's inky blackness in a photo rather than a scan, when contrasted with the clear case.

(The label side replicates a vinyl record pattern, it is also predominantly black, but with small white print under the centre hole)

Can anyone help me out with this CD?

I found a copy in the charity shop yesterday, and immediately thought the disc had been lost, as I couldn't see it in the case... by chance, the case flopped open and the disc threatened to pop out and run away when I put it down for a second, only then noticing the reason I couldn't see it was because the underside / playing surface of the disc is black!

(against a black cover insert - rendered invisible)

The thing I need help with, is that there are many listed on Discogs and ebay (cheaply), but none make reference to the particular colour of the underside, as if nothing noteworthy lies that way... but other than the discogs entry, which states "Black disc" in notes, I can find no reference to the fact mentioned in notes here, about it being either the first commercially available black disc, or that it was deleted on day of release (available fo only one day ?)

...So I wonder where that fact comes from, and also raises the question of whether there are standard silver copies of this, which may be being confused in listings on both ebay and discogs (jumbled up).... because by my reckoning, any version of a disc available only for one day ought to be rarer and not quite as readily found on market place sites as this seems to be.

Is there confusion of versions here?

Just how rare would this black one be?

(This disc looks like sorcery, as it is, to the eye, just black shiny plastic, that doesn't look like it'd play anything... not metallic... how does the laser read the bloomin' thing?!!!)

Any info on this appreciated.

(I'll look to get some images up soon)
