 I re-scanned the disc using the plastic bag method, with noticeably better results. :-)

 LaurenceD, sometimes with those shiny, mirror-like CDs, u can put them inside of a new, clean Ziploc-type sandwich bag and scan them. I had 2 do that 4 this CD, 4 example. But the plastic bag has 2 be near-perfect, or any scratches/folds in the bag will show up in the scan (like at the 5:00 position in my scan).

 I had the same problem trying to scan a CD with a silver front as it turned out to be so dark as to be unreadable. So, I took an ordinary photo of the CD against a black background.
Now you can read the text on the disc.

 Sorry about the poor disc scan; I've tried various methods of getting a decent image with little success so far. It's like trying to take a photo of a mirror...
