My copy of this is different - The CD has BARBIE GIRL printed in white with CD1 printed on it, The cover has CD1 printed on it and the inside flap has different spacing, particularly between the track name and the timings. Scans added.
They were the Boney M of the 90s (with less staying power).
To be honest, if you weren't a teenager or pre-teen at the time, or you aren't into cheesy Europop, you will not 'get' it. You had to be there really. Played incessantly at student union club nights, and probably any '90s night' around the country. Like any novelty hit in any decade.
It's just tongue-in-cheek catchy pop that is once heard, never forgotten. The video also matched the song well and is highly memorable. I also remember it causing a stir at the time when singers Lene and Rene kissed at the end of the performances on TOTP. There's more than a hint of innuendo, despite it being ostensibly a children's song. There's even some deeper meaning in there to ponder... "life in plastic, it's fantastic"...
Can someone please explain aqua to me, and this single in particular... it's appeal (enduring, apparently), it's premise... basically everything about this, I do not get.
