U.S. 3-Inch CD Single World [in progess]

This is a listing of all known 3-Inch CD singles released in the United States, that have been submitted to 45 worlds, so far.
This list will be periodically updated; as more discs are added to the site*.

In the United States, the format was short-lived. Most labels didn't bother with these "mini" discs, let alone the whole CD single format.
Japan really embraced the format and their industry quickly created a standardized package, the snap pack, which every label used.
The format was well received in Europe also, with West Germany and The Netherlands producing the most.

The majority of the U.S. 3-inch discs released, contained oldies tracks. Usually between 2 and 4 tracks. Rhino, a reissue label, possibly was the most popular to embrace the format. A&M Records chose to use a clever marketing strategy: include exclusive tracks/mixes unreleased elsewhere, to sell discs.

No standardized packaging was created, in America. Discs were sold in long, short, flat different packaging, making it unsuitable for the average music shop to find a way of displaying them. An adapter was needed for players of the time to play them and most discs didn't include one. The Columbia and Epic labels released discs in cardboard outer packaging, but included a clear plastic envelope to store the disc, but without the adapter attached! Adapters were quite often difficult to attach and remove without soiling the disc. The whole thing proved awkward for the store and the consumer.
They clearly weren't a "hot seller".

Several of these discs had CSIG numbers, pressed by DADC and often confused as catalog numbers.
