Belfast (2021)
Rated 1/10
I just watched this film last night and being born and brought up in North Belfast I can categorically state that this movie is totally and utterly inaccurate in it's depiction of not only the areas involved but historical inaccuracies are rife throughout the movie. Me thinks that Mr. Brannagh has spent too much time in England. One of the opening scenes had the army coming down the street with a Tank, there were never Tanks deployed in Belfast or anywhere else in Northern Ireland and the first armoured vehicles deployed by the army were the infamous "PIGS", it wasn't until a few years after that they deployed Saracens with machine guns mounted on the top but absolutely never ever were there Tanks on the streets of Belfast. There's also in the opening shots a newsagents at the end of the street which said General Store, Tobacconists and Off Licence. Alcohol sales in Northern Ireland were very much restricted to Pubs, Clubs & Off Licences, normal ordinary everyday Newsagents would never have been allowed to sell Alcohol unless it was under the counter. There was also a shop owned by the "Singh" family, there were absolutely no shops in Belfast owned and run by the Indian community, in fact, you could've probably counted the number of Indian families in Belfast on one hand. It wasn't until the mid 70's that Chinese Takeaways started to open. On one of the Bus Stops the word "Omnibus" appears, again this is another inaccuracy, the word in relation to Transport just didn't exist. For me the biggest travesty of this film is the use, or should I say, the overuse of Van Morrison on the soundtrack. Van Morrison was somebody who didn't figure on the music scene here at all, he was regarded by many a complete numpty and I never knew a single person who had any of his records. The music soundtrack to Belfast of the late 60's and early 70's was very much either Pop music or in my case Progressive Rock and Psychedelia. In our circle Van Morrison was the epitome of "Uncool", he was a grump Extraordinaire who never missed the opportunity to rubbish Belfast. Peter Sarstedt and the Archies were cooler than Van Morrison and in my crowd it was more about Led Zeppelin, The Moody Blues, Captain Beefheart, Traffic and The Beatles. If anybody is looking for any historical accuracy in this film or even thinks that it's anywhere near accurate they are sadly deluded. For me it gets the big Raspberry, the hype surrounding the film was better than the end product and Kenneth Brannagh really needs to research his material before committing anything to film. Total Rubbish

Donald Gets Drafted (1942) (1942)
Review
Donald Fauntleroy Duck gets his draft notice and goes in, past all the amazingly enticing recruiting posters, to sign up. First he has to pass the physical. Despite his flat feet, he makes it. Donald wants to fly, but first he has to make it through Sergeant Pete's boot camp. He has a terrible time with close-order drills, and standing at attention without moving when he's over an ant-hill proves a real challenge. Eventually, Donald ends up on endless KP.

Unearthly Stranger (1963) (1963)
Rated 8/10
Finally got around to watching this today and what a surprise. Watching it I started to feel like I had seen this before but in actual fact I had never seen it. I felt like I had just been watching an episode of The Avengers so I looked through all the names involved in it's production and found six people who had all been involved with the television series.
John Krish (Director)
Julian Wintle (Producer)
Albert Fennell (Producer)
Harry Pottle (Art Director)
Geoffrey Haine (Production Director)
Frank Hollands (Assistant Director)
Just shows how things evolve and develop over time. The movie itself was very enjoyable, there's worse things to watch. All in all I would recommend it, especially if you're a fan of the sometimes weird plots and storylines of The Avengers

Stan & Ollie (2018) (2018)
Rated 10/10
I went to see this movie 11/01/2019 on release. When the opening credits came up and as soon as I saw "BBC Films" I knew I was in for something quite special. This film is a masterclass in how to make great movies. The actors are, to put it quite simply, amazing. John C Reilly and Steve Coogan _are_ Laurel & Hardy. They are so convincing that at times it was hard to believe that it wasn't really them in the flesh. They seemed somehow to summon up the spirit of L&H and allow them to possess they're bodies, it was remarkable to watch. John C Reilly's Oliver was absolutely incredible, he had it all, the voice, the mannerisms, the body movements and the singing voice. It was an incredibly moving performance that had you smiling and teary eyed at the same time. This is one not to miss, and one which i'm sure will become a classic. 10/10 from me

Darkest Hour (2017)
Review
Just sat and watched this movie last night. I have been tempted on and off since it's release to buy it, especially the Blu Ray. While shopping in Sainsbury's they had the DVD for sale at £5 so I threw it in the trolley with the groceries and thought to myself, if it's any good and worth watching again I'll buy the Blu Ray. I honestly couldn't see what all the fuss was about on it's release and the praise that Gary Oldman received for his portrayal of Winston Churchill. To me the performance was average and not very convincing at all and there were parts where it wasn't 100% accurate. I was glad when it finished as by the end I was getting a tad fed up with it. A much better movie about Churchill in my humble opinion is The Gathering Storm. Albert Finney's portrayal of Churchill knocks Gary Oldman's into a cocked hat. Darkest Hour only gets a 5/10 from me and The Gathering Storm gets 10/10, it's a movie well worth the time invested in it to watch.

What's Going On : Taste Live At The Isle Of Wight (2015) (2015)
Review
Originally formed in Cork, Ireland in 1966 by Rory Gallagher, Taste had a brief but influential career, releasing two studio albums in 1969 and 1970 and disbanding shortly after their legendary appearance at the 1970 Isle Of Wight Festival, which is the centerpiece of this film. The core of "What's Going On" is the band's performance at the festival on August 28th but it is encapsulated by a documentary on the history and importance of Taste and setting the scene for their Isle Of Wight Festival appearance. This features contributions from Rory Gallagher's brother Donal along with Brian May (Queen), The Edge (U2), Bob Geldof and renowned guitarist Larry Coryell. Rory Gallagher would go on to enjoy an acclaimed and highly successful solo career and this electrifying show by Taste is an early example of Rory's justified reputation as the ultimate live performer.

Keeping Rosy (2014) (2014)
Rated 10/10
Just caught this last night on BBC iPlayer and was absolutely gobsmacked with it. To call this a mere thriller would be a bit of understatement. It had me glued to the screen with my heart racing and doing the odd somersault into my throat. This is one movie that really doesn't go the way you expect it to, needless to say I'm not going to put any spoilers here but if you get the chance to watch, grab it before it leaves iPlayer, other than that it can hired from Amazon. Maxine Peake, as always, puts in a stunning performance that can't be faulted in any way. If you enjoy rollercoaster movies I would highly recommend it

On Halloween night, two middle-aged couples prepare to attend a friend's annual party. Though the evening begins as usual, familiar traditions slowly unravel when the foursome shares a bottle of South American ceremonial wine made from the skin of blue dart tree frogs. Under the influence of this tribal truth serum, they share an unpredictable and hilarious night of unbridled honesty that stretches the bounds of their friendship forever.
