George Slv 22nd May 2016		When you've experienced the real era yourself, the movie is a well-crafted cartoon. Funny about Dreyfuss getting buddy-buddy with the bikers as if they're good pals like everyone else. We called those "hardrocks" in Canada. Interesting, I don't care for the surf and hotrod songs myself, falsettos and all. If you gonna take American Graffiti you gotta take Wolfman Jack. Seems like a biker type of American. Painted his face black? American djs are very smooth and professional. Jacko was on Winnipeg radio in the early 1990s interviewed by a CBC female. She asked him over-the-head intellectual questions, and all he said was like "just keep on boogying". Maybe she gave him a heart attack?



Twistin 22nd May 2016		One of my two fav films. And I have to respond to an old comment... If Wolfman Jack is...an example of American radio presenters...then American commercial radio is rubbish! It's absurd to judge American radio based on a character in a 40+ year-old film based on his real-life persona from the infancy of rock & roll. He was a gimmick from the early days of rock and roll and was not similar to any other DJ I am aware of. There were a small number of other DJ's who used unique voices, personalities, and other shenanigans to make their programs stand apart from their competing platter pushers. The moniker of Wolfman Jack was no doubt inspired by rock & roll radio pioneer Alan Freed's air name of Moondog (and the accompanying wolf howl sample used on his shows.) Wolfman's presence in the film is based on his outlaw status on the radio in the early 60's on the Mexican border radio station known as "The X" (ZZ Top has a song called "Heard It on the X" which is about that station.) The station could be picked up throughout most of North America back then and so Wolfman was a national voice delivering the rock & roll goods to young people who were mostly fed easy listening, soft pop, country...most anything but rock & roll and R&B. It may seem annoying today, but most millennials I know are just as intolerant of 99% of music from this era, so it's clearly a generational chasm. That said, I was as disappointed as everybody else by Wolfman's voice-overs on the soundtrack album.

Monolith 20th Sep 2015		I agree with the guy in the movie that couldn't stand that surfin' sh*t, I can't stand it either. LOL My previous post was a direct quote from Wikipedia as I know nothing about the ins and outs of these people. Can't stand the Beach Boys, indifferent to the Mamas & Papas and I've never heard of the Honeys and Spring (I assume they are groups/bands/whatever as well). Only knew of Wilson Phillips cos my missus bought a couple of their CDs.

Twistin 18th Sep 2015		Actually, the Phillips in Wilson Phillips was Chynna Phillips, not Mackenzie. She is Mackenzie's half-sister. Mackenzie did, however, perform with a regrouping of the Mamas and the Papas in the late 80s.



Neil Forbes 17th Sep 2015		@RC, yes, and the Wilson in that group(more likely duo) was the daughter of either Brian, Carl or Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys(not sure which one, but by naming all three I have a 33-and-a-third% chance of being correct, revolutionary odds! ha-ha).

Neil Forbes 17th Sep 2015		Starting with Rock Around The Clock(Haley & Comets) and ending with All Summer Long(Beach Boys), one disc has 20 tracks, the other has 21. Scan the front cover from either the LP(using "I.C.E." to stitch the four segments together, or scanning the CD cover(a lot easier). Type in the more detailed track list on an inner card and a basic track listing on the rear inlay card(the bit that goes under the disc holder). I'm gonna have some fun puttin' this one together! ha-ha.
