zabadak 9th Oct 2022		From Regent Street Cinema mailout 07/10/21 :read: Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr star in one of the most influential films of the romantic genre to grace the big screen. Yet An Affair to Remember (1957) is itself a remake of director Leo McCarey's own 1939 film, Love Affair. Ensuing derivative titles include Sleepless in Seattle (1993), and a remade Love Affair (1994), with Warren Beatty, Annette Bening and featuring the great Katherine Hepburn. Grant and Kerr meet on a European Tour and instantly fall for one another, despite each being promised to another. The star-crossed lovers give themselves a six month cooling-off period, ending with a meeting planned atop The Empire State if the cooling doesn't work. Unrequited love, love at first sight, loyalty and trust are all competing parts of this heady cocktail of a film.
