Back-Talk plus Instant Girl from the movie

I'll bet there might be enuf interest for Paramount to issue a Blu-ray of this. For AR 2.35 you'd need that extra resolution.

Many studios do that and it still happens (I have many a DVD with a copyright date for the DVD itself listed on back, yet it was released early the following year.) That is because they copyright their product well before its actual release date. Usually only happens within the window of end-of-year > early-in-year, although sometimes a film will get shelved for various reasons and released later. (ie, "Billy Jack" was a completed product by 1969, yet never hit the screens until 1971 because it was being passed back and forth between American International, 20th Century Fox, and ultimately, Warner Brothers...no date is seen in the actual film.)

The copyright date is actually NOT intended for the first publication, it is for the date the copyright is issued. Otherwise, that intellectual property would not be protected until it's release date. That would be a field day for data thieves.

Twistin, I've taken that into account. The copyright date is SUPPOSED TO BE the date of first publication, not production. The albums are listed as 1966. The IMDB date was somebody's reference to some New York showing in 1967. I'm taking issue with IMDB.

On the other hand: I've found the New York Times REVIEW from May 4, 1967 saying the movie opened yesterday. That actually should settle it.
This suggests the studio doesn't know how to use copyright dates, that nobody on the web knew what they were talking about, and all the album dates are nonsense.

You're confusing the copyright date, which is what you see in the film (1966), with the *release date*, which is what determines the date of a film, its first public exhibition. That was (according to IMDb) March 3, 1967. Unless you have information contradicting that date, it should stand as a 1967 release date.

Thanks for the Internet Archive tip, btw!

There is too much confusion about the date. Sources always say 1967. But the title screen says 1966 so I've submitted that. A soundtrack date of 1966 should be correct, but someone also said 1965.

This film can be found at Internet Archive. Also the musical soundtrack if you dig into the files, which can be downloaded.

I got the VD DVD taken off AMC. It's 4:3 cropped and shortened from 1:24 to 1:10. Two songs of Jackie's are missing, a bikini dance scene, and whatever else. Kim Carnes is at the teen TV stage here, called Mellie as the girlfriend of the dean's son.

About 10 years ago I woke up to the last 20 minutes of this airing on TCM, but was sadly unable to make a recording. So it does exist in Turner's vaults (and is apparently available unofficially from Video Beat). Can't remember if that airing was in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio or not. This has been on my wishlist for a long time, I may have to go for that VB version and hope for a future Warner Archive Collection offering.

Another teenage movie starring rock and roll singers of the day. I've just discovered that Jackie DeShannon was in two such movies in the 60s. VERY IMPORTANT information. This one is hard to find because it's considered a bomb.
