"....so not what I was looking for. I have never pursued obtaining this film for my personal collection since."

Not quite so. I actually have a copy of this film on a VHS tape, an NTSC copy from the states, although that is unconfirmed as yet.

I bought a lot of VHS tapes years ago from a Scottish laddie off of Ebay, and he had plenty of US NTSC titles.....nae bother to me, as my VHS video recorder could play both PAL/SECAM and NTSC VHS tapes.

I shall be adding titles as I go, one of these days, on the 45worlds: DVD & Blu-ray site.

I saw this film about 16 or so years ago on terrestrial television, and remember the unforgettable line where (I think) a detective at the office in the precinct, after there was a murder committed elsewhere in the city against a person of interest, uttered the line...

"Why-de-Dye, Why-de-Dye" almost in a sing song style.

I'm assuming the detective was saying "Why did he die, Why did he die", but the delivery was classic.

A confusion arises over Dragnet, as I believe this was the first outing, then came the first television series, filmed in black and white, and then later on the second television series.

I tried to obtain the film version, as I recall it had Richard Boone in it, as well as Olan Soule, who I believe played villains with aplomb.
I did obtain two VHS videos (14 odd years ago), but they proved to be compilations of the first TV series, so not what I was looking for. I have never pursued obtaining this film for my personal collection since.

If issued several decades later, it might be titled Dragnet: The Movie. That would make it clearer.

I don't know this 1954 series, but I do remember the 1967 one also starring Webb.
