zabadak 24th Jun 2019		Rated 10/10 Wow, this one took me completely by surprise! I knew about the rave reviews so I was expecting it to be good. In fact, I bought the DVD, for my partner (obvs!), but it came on the tellybox, so I recorded it. We watched it last night and I was totally stunned by how good it was! The story concerns itself with how the daughter (Amanda Seyfried) of Meryl Streep's character, Donna, from the first film, wants to honour her mother by getting her (Meryl's) dream hotel up and running. The film is made up roughly 50-50 of flashbacks (to the young Donna and her friends and lovers) and the present day. The way these are incorporated into the story is extremely well done and not a little touching. Whoever does the singing is brilliant! Throughout! It is no spoiler alert to say that Cher makes an appearance and sings the socks off a couple of Abba numbers (there are also brief, blink-and-you'll-miss-'em cameos by both Abba boys). It is quite a sentimental story, as you can imagine, but not overly so.
