Joseph Levine - BiographyMr. Levine began his career at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied as a child under Josef Hofmann, Wanda Landowska, Fritz Reiner and Artur Rodzinski. After graduating, he became the school's youngest faculty member. He was also a pianist for the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy and Leopold Stokowski, and he toured as accompanist with the violinist Joseph Szigeti. From 1950 to 1958, Mr. Levine was the music director and conductor of American Ballet Theater. In 1963 and 1965, he was a guest conductor for the Royal Ballet of Britain on tours of the United States and Canada. For a time he was also the conductor and music director of the Omaha Symphony, where he helped start two youth orchestras and a concert series for children. For four seasons, starting in 1969, he was associate conductor of the Seattle Symphony. Later he was associate conductor of the Honolulu Symphony and the Hawaii Opera Theater.
