The_Vinyl_Junkie SUBS 3rd Mar 2015		Classical Item Giuseppe Di Stefano - Excerpts From Cavalleria Rusticana	The Composer shown on the label is "(Mascagni-Targioni, Tozzetti & Menasci)" The one-act opera "Cavalleria Rusticana" was written by Pietro Mascagni. He was rescued from obscurity by the sudden success of his opera, which won first prize in a competition instituted in 1889 by the publisher Sonzogno, and was produced at the Costanzi Theatre in Rome, May 17, 1890. The liberetto, text by Menasci and Targioni-Tozetti, was based upon a story of Sicilian village life by Giovanni Verga.
