Magic Marmalade

This is a huge piece of vinyl... even by Columbia's standards for these blue and gold monos.

Whether that's a standard for this issue, or just a freak pressing of my copy, I can't say, but my word it's heavy!
...I'm not sure it's any thicker than others, but it feels weightier, and more rigid, and densely constituted somehow.

I found this lining the bottom of a cardboard box full of James Last et al... I could see the red peeking through between the vinyl as I wen through them, and then I caught that flash of yellow saying: "Columbia"... "Right, that's mine!", I thought, and turfed the lot out to get to it, where Barbra Streisand was keeping it company at the bottom of the box.

Just shows you the attitude people have to classical music in general... not perhaps a blameworthy fault, it's just there's so much of it out there in charity shops (most of it not particularly exciting it has to be said), but top notch vinyl like this gets lost among it all, as there isn't a great understanding of what they have there... but precisely for this reason, I tend to do well finding it, as it's the stuff others pass over and ignore.

Once I got it home, and scraped all the fallout, fusty stuff and nonsense off it, I found a pristine vinyl inside, and just a little laminate coming away from the cover.

But just look at those beautiful blue and gold labels.... Hmmmmmmm, Columbia... I love you. :)
