| Gill Sans SUBS ● 17th Mar 2016 | The chorale Was Gott Tut, Das Ist Wohlgetan is the closing chorale from BWV 99. The melody was based upon a work by Werner Fabricius which was also used in a chorale by Severus Gastorius | |
| Gill Sans SUBS ● 2nd Jan 2016 | A lovely selection of chorales, including many which will be familiar from elsewhere. Lobe den Herren is used in English for the hymn Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of Creation; Wie schön leuchtet is often sung at Christmas as the pretty carol The Three Kings in the setting by Peter Cornelius; Nun Danket Alle Gott is familiar as the hymn setting of Crüger's chorale Nun Danket, via Medelssohn-Bartholdy, as Now Thank We All Our God; Haupt voll Blut is of course the chorale "Ich will hier bei Dir stehen" in the St. Matthew Passion, and Gloria sei is now known as Wachet Auf, used for the hymn Wake Oh Wake "What will Shazam make of this" I thought, and it happily told me these tracks are now available on the Album "Bach Festival" by the Stuttgarter Kantatenorchester (download only) | |
