 The chorus from Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern uses the melody we know from Peter Cornelius' carol The Three Kings, where it was transferred from the feast of the Annunciation to the Christmas festivities. Originally a hymn by Philipp Nicolai, the melody has been adopted by other composers, and here Bach uses it at a very slow pace, intertwined with other, faster melodies.
