 If I may stoop to a more unworthy subject than this music should allow for a moment, and speak about value....

...It's worth saying that whereas with other classical titles are a bit like trying to win the lottery, in that you have to have every single ball matching all your numbers to have found a winner, in terms of having the right artist playing the right instrument, accompanied by the right orchestra, conducted by the right conductor, playing the right work by the right composer. on the right edition of the right label, and in the right condition (phew... pause for breath for a moment....)....

...Jacqueline Du Pre is one of those handful of artists who can be counted as a genuine superstar of this particular sport of classical music... and has the kind of interest and "collectibility" usually ascribed to more pop and rock acts.

First copies of this, for instance, defy the general rule for later H.M.Vs that they are of relatively lower vlaue (Those outside the "golden age" of classical music records: 1958-1967), and can fetch over £60 and more, if you have the first flip-back cover, with the colourised "postage stamp" labels.... neither of which features I have on my copy - mine being non-flip, and with a black and white postage stamp labels (although my matrices are quite early all things considered: 3, and 5G (no "G" on side one of mine))...

But the rule is good, that if you see Du Pre, you buy Du Pre... on any label, or edition thereof... she will always sell, and interest, and therefore values of her work on vinyl are on the (admittedly only steady, but most assuredly certainly) upwards trend.

If for no other reason than you may be like me, in that:

"Oooooh.... I Do love a good bit of Cello Grommit!"

(Almost as much as I love a good bit of cheese!:)
