Recorded in 2002 in the Monastère de St. Pere de Casseres and la Collégiale du Château de Cardona, Catalonia, and at the Brahms Saal du Musikverein of Vienna
Ninna Nanna is a collection of lullabies from around the world. The origins are traced for each item, whether 'Traditional' or set by a known composer. A lullaby is most often a simple wistful song from an anxious mother trying to comfort her child back to sleep.
The cover picture is Desamparados by Picasso, from his pre-Cubist period, which I find rather moving.
Two items were composed by Pärt for this album, and his Kuus, Kuus Kallike is an onomatopoeic and jolly song - maybe that would work better!
Come, Pretty Babe was written by William Byrd, who is also credited with writing My Little Sweet Darling, but here we find an earlier composition of the latter piece which is found to have been an anonymous English lullaby.
