Weihnachtsmusik, for string trio, piano and harmonium. Unlike Schoenberg's better-known atonal composing style, this is traditinally tonal, being written for his family to play one Christmas. This starts with a quote from Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen (There is no rose of such vertu):
I continue to work my way through the tracks here, and today's favourite is the Liszt transcription of Adeste Fideles, which manages to be rather intense but always with a sense of fun, shown by the repeated use of the " 'Ave A Banana" phrase. The pianist here is not credited and this version does not seem to be on YT but there is a good live performance by Alberto Belluschi
Joy To The World is shown here as 19th C Anon, but is usually ascribed to "Lowell Mason, based on Handel". An almost identical setting was used in the hymn "Comfort" by Charles Rider of Manchester (England).
It would be interesting to look at the booklet to see if there are any details of the composer shown as "Bruno". Could this be Pablo Bruna of Daroca, Spain?
