william bennett, flute; george malcolm, harpsichord, michael evans, cello. the forty missing bars of the first movement of sonata no.3 in a (bwv1032) replaced by bars written by william bennett in this recording. sonatas now.2 & 4 (bwv1031 & 1033) are now thought not to be by j. s. bach; no.2 exists in a copy with carl philip emmanuel's handwriting at its head. it may be by quantz, but no certain attribution of it has been made. sonata no.4 exists in manuscript with figured bass only, for the first three movements, but full harmonisation of the fourth: it appears to have originally been written for clavier alone.
