JJ, your comment about the recording date (source?) let me to take a sharp look again to the date in the runout. And indeed, if you look under and certain angle the "3" is a "9". So the date is 26.9.1952. My apologize for this error.

DGG started their production of "variable micrograde 78" records in July 1950, and their 33 1/3 microgroove records (Philips' minigroove) in late 1951. So the confusion is easily made.
Later 78 rpm's has N 78 in a retangular box and "variable grade" in the banner. The oldest 33 1/3 records have "LP 33 1/3" in the banner.

So I was surprised by the late date (or the early type of banner) to see on this record. More likely was the "variable grade" banner.

I was surprised to see this label with its "Variable Micrograde 78" banner, and I asked one of our 78s specialists about it. DG patented "Variable Micrograde" in 1946, so used it for 78s around 1950, but they are not microgroove, so you can play them back with a normal 78 stylus. They are variable pitch which increased the available playing time for Classical music.

This item was apparently recorded 29 Aug 1952 so the release date would be a little later than that.

I suppose so. This is side 3. Side 1 could be "Morgenstimmung" and side 2 "Ases Tod" ,
see LPE 17 037 on a 10" issue.
Highlights of the same recording on 45 you will find here: 30 002 EPL, dated 21.5.53 in the runout.

Is this the second of a set of two?

Sadly, I only have this record.

Date in dead wax: 26.3.52, quite late for a 78 rpm. In this case, you should expected a vinyl record.

Earlier issued as EVM56015
