Gill Sans SUBS ● 22nd Sep 2024		See PRCD 701 for an introduction to the Complete New English Hymnal Series. The quality of the performance here is quite outstanding, as befits a cathedral of such high standing in worship and music. This is an all-male choir, and the boys sing to a very high standard. Punctuation, and absence of punctuation, is meticulously observed. I was pleased to hear that the choir observe the 'Amen' wherever it is written in the score. For Hymns 19, 59, 180 they use the 2nd tune. Hymn 298 uses a slightly different harmony for "Waltham". Some hymns have sections sung unaccompanied, in unison, or divided between boys and men. Hymn 52 ends with a descant written by choir leader David Dunnett.
