Gill Sans SUBS 7th Sep 2023		The unaccompanied choral work Figure Humaine started the BBC Proms programme last week, with some notes by Sir Simon Rattle in which he explained that the piece was written in 1943 during the German occupation: the score was smuggled out to England, the premiere performance being given live on air by the BBC Singers, while the text of Paul Éluard's anti-occupation poem was dropped over Paris from RAF aircraft as a propaganda measure. BBC Proms Sunday 27 August



Gill Sans SUBS 25th Jul 2023		The Gramaphone Magazine carried a glowing review of this performance: "Poulenc's choral music is particularly treacherous territory. One moment you're singing what sounds like Janequin or Passereau, the next you're into jagged, almost atonal lines and harmonies that seem to tear at the ether. And the contrasts are often abrupt and have to be managed at speed with every syllable of the French in place. Incredibly, the Accentus Chamber Choir under Equilbey's direction meet all these challenges with flying colours..."
