 based on the novel, "smiley's people" by john le carré

sequel to the bbc tv series, "tinker, tailor, soldier, spy" (1979, dvd 2003), q.v.,
based upon the novel of the same title, also written by john le carré.
the bbc nor commissioned nor created a dramatised tv series of the
second in the original trilogy, " the naïve and honourable schoolboy". °

° - correctly imnsho judging that it would not make a satisfactory, nor even,
perhaps, a comprehensible stand-alone dramatic serial, given the widely-
separated in both time and settings of the formative experiences of the two
brothers, their childhood with their missionary foster-parents, background
not apparently related nor relatable to british imperial interests before or
after the second world war, and nor therefore to the circus or to the viewer
- until george smiley starts to go through old records and files, back-tracking
through old cases in the wreck of the circus left by the mole karla'd placed -
and only just uncovered by smiley, searching for aught salvageable - and saleable
to the americans, the return of whose co-operation british intelligence so badly
required - but which would not be restored without very good reason - intelligence
of relevance now, in this day and age - and of great and abiding value.
