Juke Jules SUBS 1st Jan 2025		DVD The Subject Was Roses - Warner Home Video (2009)	Review Watched this last again night, it was set in 1845 and you'd swear it was made shortly after that. It is tense, with a sense of menace as father, mother and son argue in the family apartment. Patricia Neal's character Nettie is deeply unlikeable, which I take as a sign of a superb performance. She looks deeply haggard, as she would in real life following her recovery from stroke. Martin Sheen (Timmy) is a good facial match for his 'mother', and he and Jack Albertson (John), were also difficult to like. The instrumental music, used sparingly, was scored by Lee Pockriss, and there are two songs, "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?" written by Sandy Denny, and "Albatross", another Denny favourite, were sung by Judy Collins. 1 person found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?
Juke Jules SUBS 28th Feb 2023		DVD The Subject Was Roses - Warner Home Video (2009)	It's many years since I saw this on TV, but I recall being transfixed by the superb performance of Patricia Neal, playing an unglamorous housewife caught up in tense family arguments. Set mostly in the Clearys' Bronx apartment, the production is very much in the 'proscenium arch' theatrical style.
Juke Jules SUBS 5th Oct 2019		DVD Klown - Arrow (2010)	Review The TV series 'Klown' ran from 2005-2009 and again in 2018, in which the actors used improvised comedy to portray ridiculous and often embarrassing family scenarios. The film is also improvised with one embarrassing scene after another, and is bawdy in the extreme so be careful who you watch it with. You have been warned! rottentomatoes.com gives this spoiler-free synopsis: Two wildly inappropriate friends run amok through the Danish countryside plowing through endless awkward confrontations and unspeakable debaucheries. Hopelessly wrongheaded Frank "kidnaps" the 12-year-old nephew of his pregnant girlfriend in an eager attempt to prove his fatherhood potential to join sex-crazed Casper on his secret adulterous weekend canoe trip.
