Biography - O2 Academy    UK

Frogmore Street, Bristol. This was the site of the Mecca Entertainment Centre, AKA the New Bristol Centre, which opened in 1966.

The Locarno nightclub (known as The Studio from 1983 onwards) closed for the last time on 2nd November 1991, together with the snooker club and Mayfair restaurant.

After the Bingo club closed in April 1997, this portion of the building was demolished in late 1997 to make way for student flats (Unite House).

The Ice Rink would survive until October 2012, and was subsequently bulldozed for more student flats. Only the cinema part of the New Bristol Centre survives today, the cinema closed in October 1997 and it reopened as a live music venue in 2000 (now known as O2 Academy).
