Biography - Singer Bowl    USA

Built for the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair to house certain events at the Fair. Singer (sewing machines) had
the naming rights for the venue.

The building remained as a permanent fixture in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, after the fair closed.

It was totally remodeled in 1977 to host USTA (U.S. Open) Tennis, which moved from a smaller complex in
Forest Hills, Queens and was venue was named Louis Armstrong Stadium (in honor of the jazz musician-singer,
who had lived in nearby Corona, Queens). It still stands today, but the U.S. Open moved in 1997 into a newly
built complex, Arthur Ashe Stadium, next door.

It hasn't hosted any concerts since it was reconstructed for tennis use.
