Biography - Singer Bowl USA Built for the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair to house certain events at the Fair. Singer (sewing machines) had the naming rights for the venue. The building remained as a permanent fixture in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, after the fair closed. It was totally remodeled in 1977 to host USTA (U.S. Open) Tennis, which moved from a smaller complex in Forest Hills, Queens and was venue was named Louis Armstrong Stadium (in honor of the jazz musician-singer, who had lived in nearby Corona, Queens). It still stands today, but the U.S. Open moved in 1997 into a newly built complex, Arthur Ashe Stadium, next door.
