Biography - Turnmills UK A converted 1930s wine store, Turnmills was first opened as a wine bar in 1985. In 1989, it was the first club in the UK to get a 24hr music licence. In 1990, Saturday nights saw the arrival of one of Europe's most influential gay nights, Trade, which opened from 4am to a finish at pm on Sunday lunchtime. In 1991, Mad Frankie Fraser was shot in the head from close range outside the club. He survived. The victim of a another shooting on the dancefloor in 2003 was not so lucky. The club closed in 2003, holding a farewell party which ran for 3 days. Judge Jules, The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Frankie Knuckles, Tall Paul, Brandon Block, and Danny Rampling all played the farewell night. The council rejected plans to demolish the building in 2009. The edvelopers objected, but the planning inspector upheld the council decision. In 2011 an amended plan was proposed. This time, despite more objections, the plans were approved and the build was demolished to make way for a new office block currently leased by Starcom MediaVest Group. « Back to Venue Edit This Biography : Biography Credits
