Biography - Westbury Music Fair USA In a former lime pit, Westbury Music Fair began as a open-air tent which accomodated 1,850 guests to concerts and shows. It's inspiration came as a result of two men, Frank Ford, a radio broadcaster and Lee Guber, a night club owner, who's concept created the Valley Forge Music Fair in Pennsylvania. A third man, Shelly Gross, a TV news anchor joined and the 3 raised money to open their second tent, the Westbury location in New York. In 1966, Guber and Gross opened a new indoor "theatre-in-the-round style" venue, which could hold 3,000 guests. Air-conditioned and with upholstered seating, every seat in the house had a good view plus the stage was in a slow rotation during performances. Smaller set versions of Broadway shows have been and still are performed here. The theater hosts many reunion tours to the bands and vocalists of the past. The official website still uses the originally venue name, but as most venues of today, naming rights have become the norm and the theater already is on it's third, now called the NYCB Theatre At Westbury. « Back to Venue Edit This Biography : Biography Credits
