Bill Haley's Original Comets - Biography

One of several versions of the Comets established following the death of Bill Haley. This version was formed c.1987 by the reunion of members of the Comets who worked with Haley between c.1949 and 1962: Marshall Lytle (bass), Joey Ambrose (a.k.a. D'Ambrosio) (tenor sax), Dick Richards (drums), Johnny Grande (piano) and Franny Beecher (lead guitar). Jacko Buddin was lead singer in the 1990s to mid-2000s and continued to sing with the group on European dates. Group continued to tour following the passing of Lytle, Beecher and Grande with new members (including 1974-76 Comet Bill Turner) until the COVID-19 pandemic curtailed touring; Richards and Ambrose passed away afterwards. Due to rights issues with other Comets groups, this band was variously credited as A Tribute to Bill Haley Featuring the Original Comets and, simply, The Comets. The name Bill Haley's Comets is often used for the other groups.
