The Brian Prebble Experience - Biography

The Brian Prebble Experience were a multimedia performance art project that began on August 5th 1994 with Brian Prebble (vocals and nonsense), Edgar Pye (guitar and vocals) and Gertrude Lycanthropia (violin, keyboards and vocals) It was initially a recording project. The original line up dissolved in April 1995 after a recording session. Meanwhile, a different permutation of the band did a one off performance in March 1995 which consisted of Brian with Mark Daynes on vocals.

The band specialised in humour and weirdness. Over it's lifetime, it performed just 8 gigs and all gigs except two featured different line ups! It also went busking in Hull on two occasions in 1996. It got up to all manner of weird and wonderful mischief onstage that other bands had difficulty in trying to follow. They also staged and performed "The Night Of The Prebble" a one off theatrical show in September 1996 which featured a semi-improvised comedy musical drama.

Band members over the course of it's career were in addition to the above, Simon Li (violin, guitar and vocals), Leon Spencer (guitar), Matt Tumber (lead guitar) and Sally Commins (vocals and violin) Two members joined and left without playing a note - Louise Turner and Nicki Vincent.

The band came to an end on March 19th 1997 only for Brian to be persuaded to do one last gig which he did on August 20th 1997 at The Spiders Web in Grimsby - "Prebble's Final Experience" saw the return of Sally along with Simon and original guitarist Edgar Pye who dazzled the audience with such skills as playing a badminton racket, wrestling with action men, ripping phone books in half, wearing gas masks and setting off party poppers in his face... an all round anarchic and bizarre affair which ended up confusing the band as much as it did the audience.
