Like rustieneil, I was at this memorable concert but at the second show in the evening. I remember distinctly that it was very cold that night and we were outside the venue banging on the doors to get in.
The concert started late but it was a very memorable event.
As soon as Freddie took to the stage with the spotlight illuminating him, you knew that you were in the presence of someone who could command the audience. Mott were very good but I felt that Queen stole the show that night.
The concert was running late and consequently overran. The management at Hammersmith decided to bring the stage curtain down on Mott while they were still performing presumably because of a time curfew. It ended with Verden Allen shoving his piano under the stage curtain to continue on stage. What a memorable night!
