The support band for The Beatles at the Astoria Ballroom, Middlesbrough were the Johnny Taylor Five, a local band. The lead guitar was not available to play so a stand in was found from a Stockton on Tees band. This was Laurence Atkinson, lead guitar with The Tempests. I remember reading on the internet somewhere that a fence of some kind was erected between the fans and the Beatles on stage at the Astoria but I can't find that link at the moment.
