Folker 13th Sep 2022 | | Live MusicNils Lofgren @ University Of Lancaster (1976) | Which just goes to prove you should never believe what you read in the papers.
The gig was definitely at Lancaster on Saturday May 15th. I kept a diary back in those days, which describes the gig in some detail. It notes that Unicorn were very good, though I now have absolutely no recollection of them. Lofgren came on about 9:45. I didn't think much of him at first, but warmed to him as the gig progressed.
To doubly confirm the date, I can tell you that I watched Scotland beat England 2-1 earlier the same day. My diary notes that England were "bloody awful, absolute crap, terrible ..." (no change there, then.) A quick Google of that debacle confirms the date as 15/May/76.
The date is further confirmed in the excellent book "When Rock Went To College - Legends Live At Lancaster University 1969-1985", by Barry Lucas & Paul Tomlinson. Barry booked all the gigs at Lancaster during those years and a quite amazing array of talent it was.

Folker 8th May 2021 | | Live MusicGraham Parker And The Rumour @ Odeon (1982) | It's very unlikely that this gig was GP "and the Rumour", since he had split from them two years earlier in 1980. The gig would have been billed simply as "Graham Parker".
Folker 5th May 2021 | | Live MusicThe Adverts @ University Of Lancaster (1978) | I've just added a contemporary review which came to much the same conclusions as my earlier comments.
Folker 5th May 2021 | | Live MusicSad Café @ University Of Lancaster (1978) | The perennial local no-hopers China Street were the advertised support act, but the contemporary review indicates they were replaced at short notice by a band called Jab Jab, who I'll admit I've never heard of. A net search suggests Jab Jab were a "rock reggae" group from Huddersfield.

Folker 5th May 2021 | | Live MusicJohn Martyn @ University Of Lancaster (1977) | I've added a review of the gig from the local students' newspaper, SCAN.
Folker 5th May 2021 | | Live MusicFrankie Miller's Full House @ University Of Lancaster (1977) | I've added a review of the gig, also from SCAN.
Folker 5th May 2021 | | Live MusicThe Boomtown Rats @ University Of Lancaster (1977) | I've added a review of the gig from the local students' newspaper, SCAN. Bob's name is misspelt as "Geldoff" (twice). The local grammar gremlins were out to get the Rats !

Folker 5th May 2021 | | Live MusicGraham Parker And The Rumour @ University Of Lancaster (1977) | I've added a review of the gig from the local students' newspaper, SCAN.
Folker 4th May 2021 | | Live MusicFrankie Miller's Full House @ University Of Lancaster (1977) | The preview from the Lancaster students' SCAN newspaper makes the rookie mistake of muddling the names of Frankie's band and the support act!
Folker 4th May 2021 | | Live MusicThe Boomtown Rats @ University Of Lancaster (1977) | Listed as "Boom Town Rats" on the termly gig calendar (scan added), which would have been printed in September 1977. Clearly not yet a household name at that point :-)
Folker 3rd May 2021 | | Live MusicCurved Air @ University Of Lancaster (1975) | According to the excellent book "When Rock Went To College", there may have been support from Banco and/or Halfbreed, but this isn't confirmed.
Folker 3rd May 2021 | | Live MusicJohn Cale @ University Of Lancaster (1975) | Support was Nasty Pop, not Isotope as billed on the term's gig calendar (see scan).
Folker 3rd May 2021 | | Live MusicElvis Costello @ University Of Lancaster (1977) | This tour seems to have had an identity problem, as I've found multiple references to it being called each of "A Bunch of Stiffs" and "Stiffs Greatest Stiffs".
Found a couple of original photos from the gig a little while back, when asked to contribute to a book about Lancaster's gigs. Figured I would put them up here too. No idea who took them. The picture of Ian Dury on drums, backing Wreckless Eric is quite special.
Folker 3rd May 2021 | | Live MusicRenaissance @ University Of Lancaster (1976) | This gig didn't happen. It was cancelled at very short notice. There was a large notice up at the Uni saying that the gig would be rearranged, but I don't know if/when that happened.
Folker 2nd May 2021 | | Live MusicSex Pistols @ Royal Links Pavilion (1977) | The crowd were right up against the stage. Between songs, Lydon stared out into the middle distance and snarled "Stop tying my shoelaces together".
Folker 2nd May 2021 | | Live MusicHalf Man Half Biscuit @ St Leonard's Sports And Social Club (2004) | Classic between-song non sequitur from Nigel Blackwell (to the tune of Wichita Lineman) : "I was a linesman for Notts County".
Folker 2nd May 2021 | | Live MusicDavid Bowie @ Theatre Royal (1973) | Astonished to find this original ticket today. First gig I ever attended. What a way to start! Worth noting that it was for the 2nd performance at 9pm, so effectively two gigs.
Folker 2nd May 2021 | | Live MusicStackridge @ St. Andrews Hall (1974) | Added a flier for the gig, which gives The Cows as the support act. I didn't go the gig myself, but was handed the flier at the Lindisfarne concert at the same venue on 21/Feb. No idea whether The Cows were still the support act for the rescheduled gig.
Folker 2nd May 2021 | | Live MusicBilly Bragg @ Civic Hall (1996) | Ticket says "plus Support", but for the life of me, I can't remember who it was. Any clues?
