All You Need Is Love And The National Philharmonic Concert Orchestra @ Belfast Waterfront (2019)
Review
Just attended this performance tonight and considering it was only the 2nd night of the tour it wasn't too bad. Basicaly this is a Beatles tribute act that plays the songs the Beatles recorded with orchestration. There was the odd bum note from the Orchestra but overall I reckon they did quite a good job, particularly with the more challenging songs like A Day In The Life and Tomorrow Never Knows, extraordinarily good in fact. I hope by the end of the tour they will have polished up their act a bit. John Lennon was quite flat in a few places and Paul McCartney needs to work on his breath control and Mic technique. George and Ringo I thought were very very good and a great rendition of While My Guitar Gently Weeps with Orchestra was very well received. As I Said before, by the end of the tour they should've ironed out all the wrinkles and it will probably be great by the time the last gig comes around.

It was a fantastic night, the only other song they could've played to make it special for me would've been "Here Is The News"

Didn't really have much expectation of what we were going to see but all in all it wasn't a bad nights entertainment. Musically I thought the show was quite good, there were several versions of The Beatles and they would change intermittently to suit the narrative of the show. One set of Beatles were definitley better sounding. It did get a bit hammy and over acted in places but not bad. I was surprised however to sit and watch the studio engineer smoking quite a bit throughout the performance and was obviously added to give a sense of how it must've been back in the day but in this day of anti-smoking legislation I'm surprised they got that passed. Every now and then the scene would be broken up by a group of teenagers running around screaming which I didn't particularly like, other than that quite a good evening.

Would've got a 10 only Damien in the band had a broken ankle, his leg was in a cast and he had difficulty playing. There were the odd moments when he would lose concentration, balance or something else and strange notes would eminate from his guitar. He at one point when finishing a number on an accoustic guitar played the wrong ending note and he visibly slumped his head forward in a dispondant manner. You couldn't help but feel sorry for the guy. In true Wall fashion " The Show Must Go On "

This, on the face of it should've been a good night, unfortunately it turned out to be one of the coldest summer solstices in living memory. Being perched on the clifftops overlooking the Irish Sea only served to exacerbate the situation with the wind coming off the sea making the temperatures plummet even further. I felt sorry for the guys in Horslips as by the time they came on it was freezing and they could hardly play their instruments at all. So all-in-all a pretty gruelling event and one not to be repeated

Jethro Tull @ Belfast Waterfront (2011)
Although billed as Jethro Tull it should really have been Ian Anderson as he was the only person on stage all night. It got a tad boring for my liking and I left after he played Thick As A Brick at the start of the second set

Deep Purple @ St George's Market (2010)
Originally scheduled as an outdoor concert at Custom House Square in Belfast it was moved indoors to St Georges Market due to weather conditions. St Georges Market has a very low ceiling and isn't very big and the band played at Spinal Tap levels. I had to plug my ears it was so loud and eventually ended up in the street to get away from the noise. A totally ruined night because of the volume levels and I've had tinitus ever since.

Based on the success of the BBC4 music show The Transatlantic Sessions and Following the Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow early in the new year, a selection of artists from the Transatlantic Sessions part of the festival will make a short tour in these islands: four dates in England and one (Thursday 4 February) in the Waterfront Hall, Belfast. The package consists of Shetland fiddle maestro Aly Bain and dobro legend Jerry Douglas, Nickel Creek vocalist/fiddler Sara Watkins, O brother where art thou? soundtrack star Dan Tyminski (aka the singing voice of George Clooney), Eddi Reader, Tim O’Brien, Darrell Scott, Karen Matheson (Capercaillie), Bruce Molsky and Cara Dillon and 'the ultimate house band'. The BBC4 shows were made available to buy on DVD also

Only went to this gig to see Thunder. As soon as Thunder finished I was heading for the door but my wife wanted to see what the other acts were like. After sitting through Whitesnake with an aging adolescent singer (Coverdale) I just wanted to leave. All he could do was strut round the stage clutching his crotch, I think he did this in order to hit the high notes :-)

David Gates And Bread @ Belfast Waterfront (1997)
I don't think I've sat through a concert with my jaw on the floor before, but this night was an exception. It was a last minute purchase (actually 2 hrs before the gig) because my wife wanted to see them. Tickets bought, rushed to the Waterfront, took our seats and got absolutely blown away. These guys were so good, so professional and just pretty damned perfect. I always hoped that someday I would see them again but I don't think that will ever happen. Score out of 10, if I could I would give it a 100. Fantastic !!!

Crash Test Dummies @ Ulster Hall (1994)
This was a "Spur Of The Moment" purchase just for somewhere to go, but boy was I surprised. This had to be one of the best concerts I'd seen up to that date. Musically it was perfect, Brad Roberts was in cracking form and had me laughing loudly. The band were superb musicians and Ellen Reid, as well as being a superb musician & vocalist was looking Ab Fab. They also covered tracks from their album "The Ghost That Haunts Me Now" which I hadn't heard before, but remedied by ordering it the next day. All In All, an extremely enjoyable evening and a new album to listen to, in fact, still two of my favorite albums.
