Notes

Austrian-born jazz drummer Alex Eberhard and his 10-piece orchestra passionately performing the music of George Harrison in the 169-seater capacity Pallant Suite in Chichester as part of the 2015 Festival of Chichester.

72 people turned up for a wonderful evening celebrating George's music.

The set list:

01. I Want To Tell You
02. All Things Must Pass
03. It Don't Come Easy
04. Something
05. Someplace Else
06. If Not For You
07. Any Road
08. Taxman
09. Try Some Buy Some
10. Let It Down
11. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
12. When We Was Fab
13. If I Needed Someone
14. What Is Life
15. Beware Of Darkness
16. Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)
17. Run Of The Mill
18. Blow Away
19. Here Comes The Sun
20. Isn't It A Pity
21. Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea
22. My Sweet Lord.

The inclusion of the Richard Starkey-penned It Don't Come Easy, which was produced by George Harrison, may have surprised some of the audience. In his excellent book The Music of George Harrison, Firefly Publishing 2003, Simon Leng commented "It will probably never be known if the pleasing "It Don't Come Easy" was the product of Harrison's muse or Ringo's. The previous eight years hadn't really suggested that the man who wrote "Don't Pass Me By" was on the verge of producing a well-rounded piece like this. Nevertheless, when it was finally released in 1971, Starr had a major hit with what remains his best song. The fact that the stamp of George Harrison as tunesmith and guitarist is all over it is probably not wholly coincidental".

I've updated the Notes and added news scans and photos.

Alex and his orchestra, are wonderful. They played a great set of George's music, which sounded so sumptuous. Any George fan should try to capture one of their concerts if you can. Sadly their last gig on their current mini tour at The Kenton Theatre, Henley-on-Thames on Saturday 20 June is sold out.

Well done Festival chairman Phil Hewitt for bringing Alex and his orchestra to Chichester. A splendid time was had by all.
