Live Music
Notes In the first of two concerts, the Bayerische Staatsorchester celebrates their 500th anniversary with music that pays homage to the orchestra’s formidable history. Since their story began in 1523, the Bayerische Staatsorchester has rubbed shoulders with many of classical music’s great artists. Among these is Richard Strauss, who conducted the orchestra in the late 19th century. We reach dizzying heights in his awe-inspiring tone poem Eine Alpensinfonie, following the orchestra on an adventure through the Alps. But not before a first half featuring a symphony by Ukrainian composer Victoria Polevá and one of the most significant violin concertos of the 20th century, with violinist Vilde Frang. The Bayerische Staatsorchester last performed on our stage in 2018. Tonight, we welcome them back for another helping of ‘unremitting virtuosic intensity’ (Guardian), this time under the baton of Musical Director Vladimir Jurowski. Join us as we toast to 500 more years of magnificent music-making.
