Ah... the CANCELLED 1977 British Tour debacle.
Four date British stadium tour. Cardiff 23 July, Manchester 24 July, Wembley 30 July and Dublin 1 Aug were promoted but cancelled at the last minute. A date in Germany at the Lorely Amphitheater on 26th July was also scheduled.
Carl Wilson flew into London at the end of June to promote the tour but just a week before the tour started it was cancelled amongst much rumour, speculation and controversy. Reasons suggested ranged from slow ticket sales (only 40,000 of 60,000 Wembley tickets sold), to changes in the group's management, to work visas not obtained in time. Despite cancelling the tour the Beach Boys did perform a 90 minute set for record company executives at the CBS Convention, Grosvenor House Hotel , London on 30th July much to the anger of snubbed fans. A bootleg double album of the convention did surface in due course. A pity the tour did not go ahead as the line up looked to be a pretty good one. Tour slogan on the posters "Make sure you're there!"
