 During their UK and European tour (30th May to 22nd June) the Beach Boys had a 3 day break (10th to 12th June). Carl Wilson, who had been working to get The Flames to the States since seeing the band at Blaises in late '68, would have been at this Blaises gig and spent time during this break to make progress with his ambitions for the band. The Flames finally left London for Los Angeles on 21st July '69, where they did then work with Carl on the 1970 The Flame album (the first quadrophonic album and the only other act to have a release on the Beach Boys' Brother Records label). The Flame then toured as support for many Beach Boys shows in late 1970 and early 1971, including a Europe/UK tour Nov/Dec '70. (The name change to The Flame was to avoid confusion with other Flames, notably in the USA James Brown's band.) And of course Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar from The Flame then joined The Beach Boys.
