Notes

The Quarry Men at this event were:

John Lennon : vocals, guitar.
Eric Griffiths : guitar.
Rod Davis : banjo.
Colin Hanton : drums.
Len Garry : tea chest bass.
Pete Shotton : washboard.

The occasion was the Garden Fete at St. Peter's Church, Woolton. The programme for the Fete announced that The Quarry Men Skiffle Group were going to play twice in the Church field - at 4.15 pm and again at 5.45 pm. The group had also been invited to play at the evening dance in the Church Hall during the intervals between the main act of the evening, The George Edwards Band. The group took part in the opening procession, playing from the back of the lorry.

Some of the songs played by the group during the day were:

Puttin' On The Style
Maggie Mae
Railroad Bill
Cumberland Gap
Baby Let's Play House
Be-Bop-A-Lula
Come Go With Me

It was during their afternoon session on the field that Ivan Vaughan brought along his school friend Paul McCartney to see the group. Later, while they were rehearsing in the hall before the evening dance, Ivan introduced Paul to John. Paul took John's guitar, retuned it from the banjo chords, and played "Twenty Flight Rock". John was most impressed. About a week later Paul was invited to join The Quarry Men.

That's brilliant. Among the many achievements of 45 Worlds, this will surely become THE definitive place to find the Beatles' live appearances - in time, all proven with tickets and posters. Great stuff!

TopPopper - even better, I have created a list to capture all their performances in their various incarnations. See at the bottom of this page.

Great work. Can the same be done for Silver Beatles, Silver Beats and Beetles (two 'e's)? I'm guessing there will be more too - JP&G used the name The Japage 3 for a bit - not sure if they did any gigs though. We can capture those as we go...

We can link them. If you go to The Beatles you will see I have added a "See also The Quarry Men".

Do we need to somehow tie together Quarry Men, Beatles, Silver Beats and so on, and treat them as one act?
