The Rolling Stones @ The Lyceum
I was there! First great concert I ever attended, a couple of weeks after arriving from Australia as a 22-year-old seeking his fortune.
I recall there were two great warmup groups before Procul Harem (who entranced us with Whiter Shade of Pale!).
Second to play were the Bonzo Dog Doodah Band, who were great. At 52 years distance, I can't remember who the other warmup group was, but they were also a really good band I'd heard of.
They were all great, a fantastic, exciting Xmas experience, but everything was forgotten as without warning, with the curtains still closed, the unseen Rolling Stones suddenly burst into the irresistible rhythm of Satisfaction and out of the wings exploded this dynamic prancing dervish, Mick Jagger, whose entire body throbbed in time to the beat. And his footwork! Wow! Just WOW!
One problem: I love to listen to, but can no longer watch, The Stones. As good as they undoubtedly are, I just recall that magic young Jagger of 1969 and all I see now are old men pretending.
But the memory remains absolute magic.
What a concert!
