 I have to disagree with Murray Walker , I met James Hunt shortly before he died , (unfortunately I was somewhat over awed in the circumstances and could not really offer the kind of support that he probably needed that might [ but given medical circumstances might not ] have helped. James by that time was a both a family man , but we found him as a slightly lost soul ,when he took to getting interested in the carol playing that the band I was in were doing one Saturday lunchtime in Wimbledon Village ( his talents as a trumpet player are sometimes overlooked ) , getting into conversation with our cornet players and bandmaster, etc. As a result he supported our christmas day lunch for the elderly and those otherwise on their own , popping in with his wife-to-be and two young children, which is where I met him ( I think I was off sick that earlier Saturday )I feel sure that had things gone differently ( and our band had different , more flexible leadership at the time ) , he would have become more involved in our community work, etc along with his family. He was quiet , modest and genuinely interested in what we did.
