Notes cover: William Henry "Bill" Mauldin (1921–2003) was an American editorial cartoonist who won two Pulitzer Prizes for his work. He was most famous for his World War II cartoons depicting American soldiers, as represented by the characters Willie and Joe, two weary infantry troopers who endure the difficulties of duty in the field. His cartoons were popular with both soldiers and civilians. However, his best-known cartoon was published after the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy. Images
