Ref comment by Magic Marmalade - Just for info:- The source of the information has been in contact with me making threats of legal action because of the fake disc (so called) that I uploaded. The image may look genuine to you, but I have had this record since the late 1960's and it is definitely not a fake and I would welcome any inspection. As previously said - A fake of what was a worthless record (at that time) would not have been viable for any reason. From all accounts this record sold very few copies, and were bought mainly by those who (of) knew the band.

 Just read that article kab.

I suppose in fairness it ought to be stated that the interview is with (and source of the information regarding the Mountain Men release) a man named Peter Williams - co-founder of the Eos label.

He says he's lodged a complaint with 45cat about displaying the "dodgy" disc (very annoyed with whoever uploaded it - ahem! - :)

It ought also be noted that in the article he himself states that three separate companies pressed it for them: British Homophone, Qualiton, and Decca.

...so room for different pressing styles there from the off I'd have said.

Two other possibilities come to mind too though:

Firstly, is it possible that a company like Decca (pretty busy themselves at the time I'd a-thunk, could have bumped the pressing duties for this record on to someone else without his knowledge?

And secondly, that a little "Post production" may have occurred, with someone taking the solid centre copies and having them knocked with a view to export or simple push out convenience?

I suppose the first port of call would be to look at other records pressed by the above mentioned companies, and compare.

But people can have a look for themselves I think, and make up their own minds:

The Mountain Men - Too Many People

(Looks pretty genuine to me)

Just read the second part of The Beatles Star Club tape article.

Whereas last month's dealt with the long journey of the recordings from the tape to actual and attempted releases over the years... the work done on them to make them saleable, and the legal issues...

This part looks at the actual content of the original tape itself. With a picture and description of the tape, and a minute by minute break down of the content (with tabulated descriptions) of the four tracks covering both sides.

There is an article on page 12 about the 1965 EOS single by the Mountain Men where it is claimed that only solid centre records were issued of this record and that any with push out centres are recent fakes. I have had my copy of this record with a push out centre since the late 1960's, so the article is misleading. I have contacted Ian Shirley at Record Collector magazine and he agrees that the source of the information could be mistaken. Who would have even thought of producing fake singles that were worthless at that time. mmmm !!!
