Notes cover: George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950), usually known as Bernard Shaw, was an Irish playwright, critic, and political activist. His influence on Western theatre, culture and politics extended from the 1880s to beyond his death. He wrote more than 60 plays, including Man and Superman (1902), Pygmalion (1912) and Saint Joan (1923). His range included both contemporary satire and historical allegory, He became the leading dramatist of his generation and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1925.
